Mountain bikes can be hired from Big Bear Bikes in Pickering, 16km W of the event on the A170. They are sited on the main road just after the traffic lights when approaching from the Thornton-le-dale direction.

Whitby to Scarborough is a 33km (one way) ride along the old railway and is ideal forleisurely cyclists or families as the route is almost entirely traffic-free along the disused railway line. S of Ravenscar, the track passes within 10km of White Rose 2012.
